The Phoenicians attained such a level of perfection in the working of ivory that their w
orks were appreciated and sought after throughout the Near East. Thrones, beds, and various kinds of furniture were covered with finely worked ivory. The parts made of ivory were often embellished through the application of blue \b \cf1 \ATXht5 enamel
\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 and above all gold leaf. A number of individual objects were also made out of ivory, including some typically Phoenician thuribles, of which various bronze and terra-cotta examples are known as well.\par
